It’s the best. It takes place on every second Saturday of August. If you’re wondering it’s tomorrow.
Nehru Trophy boat race is at the Punnamada Kayal in Alapuzha, Kerala.
It’s is a must watch event, at least once in the lifetime. The best place to be is in one of the local boats all along the race track.
There’s a pavilion but mostly for the guests of honor and though you get a ticket, its difficult to find a good spot in the crowded small place. There’s of course an option to go and take position very very early.
There are competitions involving boats of different categories. The main and most competitive is the snake boat or the chundan vallam category.
On the chundan there are over 110 rowers, sometimes going upto 128 and some 20 odd singers. The year long preparations leading to the competition by teams from nearby areas rival preparations for olympics.
And for tomorrow, watch a live telecast. If you can’t find one, look for the tv channels of one of the Malayalam news .
Go for it. In the meantime it’s time to hit the sack here, armed with the stone and wearing the Fitbit monitoring the sleep.
