Kochi Muziris Biennale

It’s happening in my backyard! But frankly got reminded of it by a friend who mentioned that she wanted to come to visit it. Of course, only the first of the three words in the name was pronounced correct.

According to Wikipedia definition “The Kochi-Muziris Biennale is an international exhibition of contemporary art held in Kochi, Kerala. It is the largest art exhibition in India and the biggest contemporary art festival in Asia. The Kochi-Muziris Biennale is an initiative of the Kochi Biennale Foundation with support from the Government of Kerala. The exhibition is set in spaces across Kochi, with shows being held in existing galleries, halls, and site-specific installations in public spaces, heritage buildings and disused structures”.

That says a lot. And I should be proud of the great event happening in my neighbourhood. I did go when it started first time, but got resigned to the idea that I am not and may not be in a position to appreciate art.

Friend’s call, rekindled an interest and was surfing the net a few minutes back and it looks good, perhaps!

Everybody is talking about it. They must know art or it’s fashionable to speak that way to be cool.

The exhibition is from December 12, 2018 to March 29, 2019. It’s not three months or 100 days. Well, we are talking about pure art here!

But it still echoes in my ears. That’s the TV reporter interviewing people coming out of the exhibition in the second series, asked “what you think about the Biennale”

One innocent response “okay I saw it. There was something a lot of people were looking at. I don’t know what it was! It was either art or the Municipality forgot to clean the area”

We must be better!

I would urge my friends to try and visit this great event.
