Cooking Prawns. A Successful Journey Into The Unknown.

I did it, and it’s the most yummy!

We got some fresh prawns straight out of the net of fisherman. Circumstances made me the only cook available to see that the freshness is not lost in the freezer.

Googled a traditional recipe and found something which could be my favourite, ‘prawns with thengakoth (coconut slices).

Marinated the cleaned and about half kilo prawns with salt and kudampuli (cambogia) washed again and drained.

Put in a hard bottom Cooking vessel and added the following ingredients- one sliced onion, 6 shallots, half coconut flesh sliced, 6 garlic pods, one inch ginger finely cut, one tablespoon chilli powder, 3/4 tablespoon coriander powder, 1/4 tablespoon turmeric, one pinch of fenugreek powder.

All mixed well and cooked with water enough to be just below the prawns.

In a separate pan diced some curry leaves and a teaspoon of mustard in coconut oil. Added to the almost cooked prawns with more coconut oil and salt to taste. Covered and cooked till dry.

And it turned out Yum yummy yummiest. Believe me.

(Published in my broadcast group titled ‘Cooking Exotica & Fitness’ where I have my experiments with traditional food and delicacies. Prawns is bold and happily successful).

    1. Thank you. I will. Thank you for the support always 🤗.
Yesterday I used my wife’s recipe to make chicken kurma as she was slightly indisposed. She liked it just like she liked the prawns.
By the way, I have a whatsapp broadcast group “Cooking Exotica & Fitness” and another “Intermittent Fasting”. Will you be interested in joining? As a broadcast group members can’t see each other and hence privacy is assured.

      2. Oh no! Take care. We will think about the wellness group later.
And yes, my wife is slightly indisposed and I am happy to enter the kitchen. It has been a passion to try out traditional dishes and delicacies that I remembered from childhood. My whatsapp broadcast group “Cooking Exotica & Fitness’ is about that.
But now it’s need based and I am happy to see that I can cook following a recipe.
The prawn item has been superlative and my wife loved it.
Then I made her chicken curry following her recipe.
And yes, heartfelt welcome to the family 🤗

  1. Am absolutely in love with Kerala food after my maiden visit in May this year. My grandparents moved to Malaysia in the late 1930s and we’re familiar with Kerala food, but it doesn’t quite taste the same as some ingredients like kudum puli have been replaced by Tamarind – for instance. Will definitely try this out!

    1. Oh great. Great to meet a Malayalee Malaysian (I suppose). Yes kudampuli can make that difference.
Try this out and it will be so nice.
I started cooking only recently, and find it so fulfilling. I even have a whatsapp broadcast group called ‘Cooking Exotica & Fitness’. Another important group I manage is ‘Intermittent Fasting’, which is the best wellness program.
Being a whatsapp broadcast group, individual identity and phone numbers are not shared within the group. Only I have the global view and I consolidate feedback and responses and broadcast back to the group mentioning them as contributions.
If interested in either or both the groups, send your whatsapp number to my: +91 9400056031
