ഉമിക്കരി. Activated Charcoal. Back to Basics.

Umikkari has been the tooth cleaner, especially in Kerala from long time. Multinationals like Colgate slowly eliminated it with their advertising muscle and addictive taste.

I was reading ‘Delay, Don’t Deny’ the best book on Intermittent Fasting and author Gin Stephens is particular about avoiding artificial sweeteners, flavours and such things while fasting as they tend to make body release insulin which adversely affect fat burning.

She mentioned tooth pastes as an unavoidable thing as one has to brush the teeth.

Not necessarily. Processed charcoal from rice husk or ഉമിക്കരി can make a comeback for brushing or cleaning teeth.

I am keen on doing things right, if possible. So looked in Amazon for it. Plenty are available.

But hold on! Read product description. Many have mint and flavours added. Finally I narrowed down to the one in picture which doesn’t talk about additives.

I must also look at some local shops for a pure umikkary.
