The Real Workout Starts When You Want to Stop!

This is a cutout in our gym in Jayanagar, Bangalore. I tried looking at it and act on it when I am through with my workout including some weights. Though I want that body, never managed to start from then on.

Perhaps, now is the time, for all of us. Many of us are stuck, without much of travel, social functions and even movies.

I wish i can and all of you will look at the picture more closely. We have all learned and are practicing better hygiene. This is another opportunity with more time in hand. Try and go for that extra for fitness and wellness.

It need not be only pumping the iron in the gym. Let’s do this extra with our yoga, walks, swimming, jogging, games etc etc.

Let’s take it from where we wanted to stop.

It’s so true in almost everything, perhaps in everything good and desirable.

We say this mantra, especially when we refer to working out in the gym for better health.

Then the same should be applicable to the best wellness program, Intermittent Fasting!

Giving information is good, but not so when commercial interests work on it.

When we read research on Intermittent Fasting and it’s goal of autophagy, it’s clear that clean fasting is better and if you can do dry fasting, then it’s even better.

But there are people saying that black coffee, black tea, herbs, good fat, green drinks etc are okay while fasting. Well here we can see some multinational product lobby, probably hiding behind.

So, do Intermittent Fasting the clean way with only water. If you are comfortable enough try dry fasting in between or more.

But if you are willing to dilute the best results with some calories from black coffee etc. do it. But only if you’re already on coffee or tea. But please don’t start an addiction for the sake of it.

Intermittent Fasting- The Best Wellness Program.

Today I am completing one year in Intermittent Fasting. I started it on 19, January 2019 when my friend from Kuwait asked my opinion about it, citing very positive changes to her friend who was on the fasting.

I am mostly devoted and strict with the schedule ever since.

It has changed my life in a very positive way. Right now I am preparing for a national level swimming competition in February. I am looking at developing my dream six packs.

I am also much more positive in life. I am even looking for movie acting roles after a chance appearance in a Malayalam movie, acting as the president of India. I even think positively to a classmate’s comment that I could be the lucky Mascot for the hugely successful movie.

Autophagy is my target in Intermittent Fasting and as such I supplement fasting with some High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) which alone could usher in autophagy. For this I do intense sets of swimming with Interval rests.

I am slowly getting into a swimmers body shape which comes with six packs.

I feel and perhaps look much younger to my actual age.

The only problem to mention is the ‘Dawn’s Phenomenon’ I seem to have developed. That’s my blood glucose reading of 85 in the early morning hours, going up to like 130 as I progress into fasting. Some say Dawn’s is okay, but I need to get out of it.

A Wellness Group, And It’s Working

My First BulletProof Coffee

The BBC coverage on Dave Asprey, the brand owner of bulletproof coffee and my blog on it yesterday, prompted me to have my first bulletproof coffee.

Of course, I doubt if the three ingredients sold by Dave’s company is available locally. But I know how to get them of my own.

My coffee machine takes roasted coffee beans, powder them and brew fresh coffee. I don’t make fresh ghee, though we used to make it at home when we were small. So I went for locally made ghee from cow milk, available on the stores.

And I make my own virgin coconut oil from fresh coconut using the boiling method.

Onto this big cup of coffee, a scoop of ghee and a teaspoon of virgin coconut oil were added to make my first bulletproof coffee.

It tasted just okay, in fact good.

Now, why I am doing this!

The BBC coverage, the link of which was copied in my last blog, speak about the benefits Dave Asprey is bringing on the table. Added to that, I remember from childhood some people adding ghee to coffee for better health. Also the article says that Tibetan Monks added yak ghee to tea.

Dave Asprey does many more things like extracting his born marrow to grow stem cells etc with target to live till 180.

We don’t want to live that long. What we want is to live healthy as long as we live.

Again, Intermittent Fasting gives some of the benefits like growing new growth hormones, autophagy and cleaning and repairing damaged cells and even growing new ones.

And intermittent fasting stipulates no calories during fasting period. As such I had the coffee during the eating window.

Bullet Proof Coffee! A Healthy Cocktail?

My last blog was on Dopamine Fast and why I’m out of it.

But this one caught the eye, when a BBC coverage on it was forwarded by a relative.

Clearly it has an eye catching name. And the bullet proofing is through ingredients like butter from grass fed cow and the real virgin coconut oil.

Butter or ghee from grass fed cow is highly in demand as the purest and best form of good fat and the world is singing praises of the virtues of the virgin coconut oil.

Pure coffee is zero calorie and it’s invigorating and recommend for sustaining a longer period of fasting in my favourite Intermittent Fasting routine.

So, a cocktail of the three bests should be good. And I am happy to recommend it since I may not be the right guy to endorse it.

Weight loss appears to be the number one measure in wellness. Looking good is one of the reasons for it while the growing epidemic of obesity is another.

However, the latest finding and what everyone should attempt to achieve as wellness goal is autophagy. It’s brought about by way of intermittent fasting, stressed out exercise and or diet leading to ketosis.

In an autophagy (Greek word for self eating), bad cells are cleaned up and repaired, new good cells grown and even human growth hormones are enhanced.

A few months back, I started a broadcast group on Intermittent Fasting and it’s now proving to be highly valuable.

I started the small group after finding out that the large, mostly Facebook groups with several thousand members are full of stories of achievements beyond our simple imagination.

Our group has mostly known friends and relations and of course there are a few who joined after open invitation on this blog site. And it has the person who got me into IF as a valuable member.

We have not grown much in size, but grown definitely on content. The stories and articles exchanged have made IF a definite way of life. And I am happy to say that the greatest endorsement is with a Nobel Prize in Physiology (medicine) in 2016.

The Noble laureate Japanese doctor is talking about damaged cell repair and new human growth hormones as a result of fasting. Wow, that’s something incredible!

And it’s not the weight loss that is important. IF and the ‘autophagy’ that it can bring about is our best chance for a healthy life. Benefits include in areas such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, inflammation, blood pressure, arthritis, heart health etc etc.

Like all statutory warnings, diabetics are advised to consult the doctor before doing IF. Actually, one of the significant gains in IF is blood glucose stability and insulin control. When we grow older, it’s natural that we look for support. And in the process, one can fall into the trap of letting oneself grow older mentally too.

There are some things we can do to ease the process and avoid the hassles of seeking support from busy people.

By the way, one of the sure shots for success is to get into the bragging game, quite willingly. And I am happy to admit that I have a doctorate in the art of bragging. You have seen that! Sincerely!

We have had several theories on wellness, which we used to try once in a while and achieve some success, only to lose them all and get into the negative segment, once the routine is changed.

Now, at last, we have a ray of hope. First and foremost is the idea of Intermittent Fasting. It’s not a diet, it’s a lifestyle. If we say this mantra quite too frequently, the chances are that we believe in it. If nothing, it’s a placebo.

Wait, it’s not just placebo, the 2016 Nobel Prize was awarded to the study. Intermittent fasting could lead to autophagy which is repairing damaged cells and growing new ones. Growing new cells is actually reversing age, not only mentally, but physically too.

When We Need Support, Do It Together!

It’s All Positive So Far! And The Benefits Too!

I started on Intermittent Fasting on January 19, 2019 after getting alerted on the subject by a friend. And I have been fairly regular with my 16.8 schedule. That’s fasting for 16 continuous hours and eating during the remaining 8 hours with two meals and liberal snacking in between.

Like all diets, weight loss has been the primary measure of success and it was good by about 12 ponds within the first 45 days. And then it started remaining stationary.

And there are any number of articles and videos on the subject with each one giving valuable information and all being positive and good.

There are some takings from these. Like ‘it’s not a diet, it’s lifestyle’. ‘Weight loss is just a side effect and other benefits outweigh’ etc.

There are big Facebook groups with several thousands of members but those started getting dominated by mere words and comments. So I started a whatsapp broadcast group with known people and we are sharing valuable experiences and motivate each other.

Pooling literature on the subject is of great benefit with information on autophagy etc. Thus it has become aspirational as healing and growing new cells are like a dream.

There’s a catch though, for best benefits, one has to progress towards at least a 20.4 schedule. And I want to do it.

Yesterday was my first 20.4, achieved almost accidentally as we got into a movie theatre at 16 and half hours of fasting. And I achieved 20 by refusing Theater snacks. Now the challenge is to continue.

The videos and articles in our group are so informative that IF is clearly the most significant health initiative. The videos include one from the Nobel Prize winner for his work on IF and autophagy.

Actually, all my friends should spend some time listening to them and reading the material available in the group.
